Situated in the beautiful Lloyd Elsmore Park, the Howick Historical Village is our region’s top visitor attraction.
A wonderful family experience, here you can step back in time and discover the way of life in the fencible settlement of Howick during the mid to late 1800s.
This historic village has been lovingly created with original buildings from the region being re-located to this site. Here village life is re-created for all to experience. You get a true taste of the daily tasks of our early European settlers, as well as how they spent their leisure time. Visit the church, the tiny houses, the school house, and the sod cottages. Hard to imagine large families living in such small homes.
Volunteers across all ages and in full costume go about their daily life as it would have been in the 1800s. Visitors can enjoy watching butter being churned, children can play old games like hoops, the school room may be in use for lessons, even a church surmon. Soldiers can be seen being put through their paces as they patrol the village.
Regular Open "Meet the Villagers" days are held, as well as specific tours and activities. Check their website for current events/activities.
This is a wonderful experience. Don’t miss it.
